Busy café is located in the beautiful new Judy Genshaft Honors College
TAMPA, Florida — Tampa craft roaster Buddy Brew Coffee officially launched its ninth retail location on Aug. 21, 2023, on University of South Florida’s Tampa campus.
Buddy Brew’s latest café is on the ground floor of the new state-of-the-art Judy Genshaft Honors College at 12260 USF Genshaft Dr.
At the café’s official grand opening, students, faculty, staff and friends lined up to enjoy a free cup of brewed coffee and see the sparkling new space, which features soaring ceilings and cantilevered “floating” study pods.
Buddy Brew Co-founders Dave and Susan Ward were on site, along with Buddy, their golden labrador who inspired the Buddy Brew brand. They welcomed a steady stream of visitors that included USF President Rhea Law, Dean of the Honors College Charles Adams and President Emerita Judy Genshaft, among other special guests.
“We are excited to bring the Buddy Brew experience to University of South Florida’s Tampa campus, and serve this very special community of students, faculty and staff,” said co-founder Dave Ward. “This beautiful new building is an asset to the campus, and we are proud to have the opportunity to be a part of it. Working with Aramark/USF Dining has been incredibly rewarding and seeing the smiles on students’ faces is what it’s all about.”
Bulls Blend, a proprietary Buddy Brew specialty coffee blend crafted exclusively for USF, is the café’s house blend for drip coffee. It is a thoughtful blend of single-origin specialty coffees ethically sourced from small farms in El Salvador and Ethiopia, as part of the craft roaster’s “Brew Good, Do Good” mission. Bulls Blend is bold, smooth and satisfying, with hints of dark chocolate, sweet cherries and toasted walnuts.
It will soon be offered in whole bean format on the café’s merchandise wall, which offers a rotating selection of whole bean coffees, coffee brewers, Buddy Brew apparel, co-branded USF/Buddy Brew drinkware and more.
The café offers Buddy Brew’s signature espresso and coffee drinks as well as teas, and a full breakfast and lunch menu, including house-baked cookies and croissants, avocado toast with poached eggs, and more. Buddy Brew’s BOLT Cold Brew in Nitro and Original, is on tap, and also available in grab-and-go cans in a refrigerated case.
The café will accept USF Dining Dollars in addition to cash, debit and credit. Guests can order ahead on Buddy Brew's locations page.
“We are thrilled to partner with Buddy Brew Coffee and introduce this shop to USF,” said David DiSalvo, resident district manager for Aramark/USF Dining. “This partnership highlights USF and USF Dining’s commitment to celebrate local businesses, and Buddy Brew is a tremendous brand in the Tampa Bay community. We believe this service will be a valued amenity for students, faculty, staff and visitors on-campus.”
Hours of business are 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; with hours likely to be extended in the coming weeks.
